Most modern door handles have cover plates that hide the screws to create a stylish appearance. However, you'll need to attach them separately if the new handle does not already have them.

Removing the old Handle

The door handle isn't only a decorative addition to your home It's also a safety feature that allows you to lock and unlock the door. However, over time your door handle can lose its grip, feel loose, or appear old and worn. This is a good indication that it's time to replace the door window handle repairs.

If your door handle is becoming difficult to use, it may be time to replace it. This is an issue because it means that you can no longer lock or unlock your door which could create a security risk for you and your family.

If the door is still moving or jiggling, then you may need to enlarge the hole for the latch in the strike plate. This is more prevalent on older doors. It can be caused by wear and tear hinges that are too shallow, the incorrect size of the latch or a damaged strike plate. If this is the situation you can use a metal file instead of a chisel or hammer to adjust the strike plate.

Remove the Latch

The latch is the angled metal piece that moves between the hole in the inner edge of your door. The latch is moved forward when you turn the handle. It also hooks into a hole on the door frame to ensure that the door is closed. If your door is wiggles when you close it, replacing the latch might be all you need to correct the issue.
