How to Replace an audi tt key fob not working G28 Engine Speed Sensor

In this video Charles the Humble Mechanic shows how to replace the G28 engine speed sensor. This sensor is located near the edges of the transmission just above the flywheel ring gear. It sends a message to the ECU through the grey wire T55/49 and then to the tachometer on the instrument cluster.

1. Engine Speed Sensor

It is located on the outside of the transmission just above the flywheel ring gear G28 Engine Speed Sensor sends an electrical signal to ECU pin T55/49 via an uncolored wire. The ECU then utilizes this information to regulate fuel, timig and boost. It also sends a signal to the G5 tachometer in the instrument cluster.

The sensor is used to connect with the G40 Camshaft position Sensor. The ecu needs to be aware of when the crankshaft has reached TDC and also the position of the camshaft, in order to activate the spark and injectors.

If this sensor fails, the ECU will show the P00160 error, which means the Crank Shaft and Intake Camshaft aren't in sync, possibly indicating the chain stretching or a jump link on the upper chain of timing. However, the code won't appear on its own without additional information from other sensors (G4 and G40).

Testing can be a bit difficult as there are two different connector pins, and they perform different functions but the most effective method to test it is to measure the resistance between the sensor and the ECU. It should read approximately 1000 ohms when the sensor is operating at its maximum. If you are having problems with this part, check for signs of coolant or oil in the connector bay.

2. Injectors

Yesterday, while accelerating at full speed from the highway paytoll i had a big cut in power like the engine is out of gas or injectors are not firing any more. Today, i pulled out the spark plugs. Three were drenched with gazoline the fourth was dry. When i crank the engine, there are no sparks, I put a piece of tissue on the top cost of audi key replacement each of the injector holes and the 3 that were drenched in gazoline leap out, however the 4th stays closed. I checked the ground connection on ECU pins 14/55,30/55 and audi tt Replacement key 48/55 I got 0ohm. I assume that the problem is in another location.

I also tried to reset PID without success. The audi car key will start when the G28 is unplugged, and it is running fine with the G28 plugged in. However the intermittent misfire issue continues to occur at higher RPM. The coolant sensor (G62) even if it is not plugged in, shows an ice temperature of -49c. I also noticed that the oil gauge in the cockpit shows 2 bars while the actual pressure is 0.

I'm not sure what to do. I feel like i've pretty much ruled everything else out. However, i'm afraid that i might have missed something. Please let me know If you have any suggestions! TIA!

3. Fuel Pump

The fuel pump in the g28 receives a signal from the RPM sensor. The GM-style sensor is the same as the G4 and both function in the 80 100, 200, UrS and RS2 cars so you can easily find one at a salvage yard or from a parts store. Testing them is easy - put your DMM in resistance mode and measure between pins 1 (with the bump on the connector end up) and 2 (2nd from the left on the black end of the connector). They must be infinite Ohms.

4. ECU

The ECU of our 20vt turbo (3B AAN ABY) engines requires to be aware of the position and speed the crankshaft to determine fuel injector timing, etc. In order to do this it utilizes a Crank Position Sensor (G4) and an Engine Speed Sensor (G28). If you have a problem with either of these sensors, the diagnostic scanner will display codes that could lead to an engine shut down.

Some of the signs of a failed G28 sensor are an inaccurate gearbox rev counter and gears that shift faster than normal and/or a misfire when you are in gear. It is probable that your sensor is failing and requires to be replaced if you encounter any of these signs. The good thing is that they are very affordable and easy to find particularly if you're looking at the Bosch model, like ours. Alternatively, the GM version of this component is also a great option.

5. Tachometer

A failing engine sensor could cause a myriad of issues in your car. It's a crucial component of the transmission in your audi a1 Key Fob since it sends information to the ECU on how fast or slowly the car's engine is turning. If the sensor fails, it will disrupt the performance of the transmission as well as the rest of the car's components.

key-from-new-car-2021-08-29-05-15-15-utc-min-scaled.jpgThe G5 engine speed sensor is located at the edge of the transmission just above the flywheel ring gear. It sends a signal to the ECU at pin T55/49 via an uncolored wire. The ECU then uses and processes this signal to control the flow of fuel, timig and boost and then transmitting it to the G5 Tachometer located in the instrument cluster. You can determine if the sensor is in failure by examining the continuity of the sensor to the tachometer. Additionally, you can examine the continuity between pins T55/49 of the ECU and pin T6a/1 of the instrument cluster (trace [79trace [79]) and between pin T6a/1 and pin T26a/12. You should see approximately 1000 ohms resistance between those two pins. This is the same across the audi spare key replacement 80-100-200-RS2 model, ranging from the 1985 MC up to the 1997 UrS AN and the 1995 RS2 DU, so you might find good ones in wrecking yards.
