In this video, Charles the Humble Mechanic shows how to replace the G28 engine speed sensor. The sensor is located near the edges of the transmission just above the flywheel ring gear. It transmits a signal to the ECU via a grey wire T55/49, then to the tachometer located on the instrument cluster.

1. Engine Speed Sensor

Located on the edge of the transmission just above the flywheel ring gear G28 Engine Speed Sensor sends signals to ECU pin T55/49 using a grey wire. The ECU then utilizes this information to regulate the boost, fuel, and timig. It also sends an indication to the G5 tachometer inside the instrument cluster.

The sensor serves as a reference point to connect with the G40 Camshaft Position Sensor. The ecu has to know when the crankshaft has reached TDC, and where the camshaft lies to trigger the spark and injectors.

If this sensor fails, the ECU will display an error code P00160 which indicates that the Crank Shaft and Intake Camshaft aren't in sync and could indicate the chain is stretched or a jump link on the upper timing chain. However, the error code won't appear on its own without additional information from other sensors (G4 and G40).

Testing is a bit challenging as there are two different pins for the connector and they have different functions but the most effective method of testing it is to measure resistance between the sensor and the ECU. It should read about 1000 ohms if the sensor is at full operation. Examine for signs of coolant, or oil in the connector bay if there are problems with this part.

2. Injectors

Yesterday, when i was accelerating to the fullest speed from highway paytoll, I experienced massive power loss like the engine is running out of gas or injectors aren't firing any more. I pulled out the spark plugs this morning, 3 were soaked with gasoline and the fourth was dry. I placed a tissue over each injector hole, and when i start the engine without sparks, the 3 with gazoline jump right out. The 4th one remains shut. I checked the ground connection of ECU pins 14,30, and 48/55. I got 0ohm. So i assume the problem is somewhere else.

I also tried to reset the PID without success. The car will start when the G28 is disconnected, but it runs fine with the G28 connected. However the intermittent misfire issue still occurs at higher RPM. The temperature sensor for the coolant (G62) shows the wrong temperature value of -49c, even if I unplug it. I also noticed that the oil gauge in the cockpit shows 2 bars but the actual pressure is zero.

I don't know what to do. I think I've all other possibilities out. However, i'm afraid that I might have missed something. If anyone has any ideas please let me know! TIA!

3. Fuel Pump

The fuel pump in the g28 gets a signal from the RPM sensor. The GM-style transmitter functions similarly to the G4 sender and both work on the 80,100,200, UrS, and RS2 vehicles. You can easily locate an extra in a wrecking shop or a parts store. It is easy to test them - simply switch your DMM into resistance mode and measure the distance between pins 1 and 2 (with the bump on the connector's edge facing up). They should be infinite Ohms.

4. ECU

The ECU in our 20vt turbo (3B AAN ABY) engines needs to be aware of the position and speed of the crankshaft to determine fuel injector timing, etc. To accomplish this, it utilizes a Crank Position Sensor (G4) and an Engine Speed Sensor (G28). If you encounter a problem with either one of these, the diagnostic scanner will show codes that could lead to an engine shut down.

A damaged G28 sensor could result in an inaccurate gearbox speed counter or a gearbox that shifts more quickly than normal, and/or a misfire in the gear. It is probable that your sensor is failing and needs to be replaced if you notice any of these symptoms. The good news is that they are very affordable and easy to find particularly when you're looking at an Bosch model, like ours. Alternatively, the GM version of this unit is also a good option.

5. Tachometer

A malfunctioning engine speed sensor could be a cause for many issues with your car. It's a vital component of the audi spare key for audi cost - https://bookmark4you.win -'s transmission since it relays information to the ECU about how fast or slow the car's crankshaft is rotating. This sensor can cause the transmission to malfunction and other components in the car key replacement audi to be affected.

The G5 engine speed sensor is located at the outside of the transmission, above the flywheel ring gear and sends a signal to the ECU at pin T55/49 through an uncolored wire. The ECU uses this signal to regulate fuel and boost, as well as timig. It also sends it to the G5 Tachometer inside the instrument cluster. You can test for sensor failure by examining the continuity from the sensor to the tachometer. Also, you can verify continuity between pin T55/49 of the ECU and pin T6a/1 of the instrument cluster (trace [79trace [79]), and between pin T6a/1 and pin T26a/12. You should detect an average resistance of 1000 ohms between these points. This is a common component across the audi key fob 80, 100 200, UrS and RS2 range from 1985 MC through the 1997 UrS AAN and 1995 RS2 ADU, so the best parts could be found in wrecking yards.Porsche-New-2023.png
